Covestro develops bio-reinforced resins for solid wood construction

A project supported by the German Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Renewable Energy has officially launched in the near future. It will develop bio-enhanced panels for solid wood construction and replace the petrochemical products currently in use.
The project was jointly developed by Covestro Germany and four other companies or institutions: Sortimo International GmbH, the German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF), the Institute of Plastics Engineering of the University of Stuttgar and the The Raanhoff Institute.
Covestro said that the panel will be based on polyurethane, reinforced with cellulose and more than 90% of biomaterials, without any additives, and has excellent weathering resistance and flame resistance.
This project has been officially launched and will be used to respond to the demand for solid wood structures in urban space.
According to Crestron, the materials used to produce buildings are mainly staggered wood and plywood wood, but they include solid wood rotating layers and thin layer diffused polyurethane resins, and are reinforced with aramid, glass, and carbon fibers.
