On May 17, 2012 Shanghai Lighting Technology and Application Trend Forum was held in Shanghai Zhongyou Sunshine Hotel, from relevant departments of Shanghai, international and domestic lighting experts, scientific research and testing institutions, lighting design and engineering units, lighting production enterprises, etc. Nearly 500 people attended the forum. The reporter followed the report and interviewed some of the participants.
Renamed to keep up with the beat of the times
[Reporter]: Hello Liu, total! From Yaming Bulb Factory to Yaming Lighting, how does our name change process reflect the corporate development strategy?
[Liu Jingwei]: The original Yaming Bulb Factory was an older company. It was founded in 1923 as Yapur Lighting Co., Ltd. After liberation, it became the Shanghai Yaming Bulb Factory. In 1996, it was renamed Shanghai Yaming Bulb Factory Co., Ltd. However, as early as 10 years ago, we felt that the name meant that our entire product was too narrow. In fact, the main product after 2000 is lighting, not only as a light source, but also as an electric appliance, a light fixture, and now also as an LED. So the more accurate name should be lighting. Especially now that the era of LEDs has come, the concept of light bulbs can't really keep up with the beat of the times. So we officially changed our name in January this year. This is also based on the current development of a situation, then renamed Shanghai Yaming Lighting Co., Ltd.
[Reporter]: If you look at technology and products, what do you think is our product advantage in the Chinese market?
[Liu Jingwei]: Yaming is an old-fashioned enterprise with a long history. Yaming's brand should be very influential in some lighting fields. We entered, for example, landscape lighting, road lighting, industrial lighting or now entering some commercial lighting. Of course, in some respects, our popularity is still not enough. Recently, through the development of LED, we will accelerate the penetration of products in other fields.
[Reporter]: In which aspect should we work hard to deepen product penetration? Do you want to strengthen brand building?
[Liu Jingwei]: Lighting is a big industry. No company has strong penetration, including Philips, GE, and OSRAM. It is impossible to cover it all. Like we may focus on industrial lighting, landscape lighting is a little more, relatively speaking, the impact on civilian lighting is not so strong. This is due to the different market segmentation of the products.
There are also some brand problems in the history of Yaming. For example, we have had a joint venture with Philips. After June last year and July, all the brands were acquired. Now we are re-integrating our original brands. At present, we regard the word "Asia" as our main brand.
LED development is inseparable from policy
[Reporter]: How did you summarize our market performance in the first half of this year?
[Liu Jingwei]: Overall, the overall situation in the first half of this year may have a certain impact on sales. Now the project project is less than the original, and the home lighting and commercial lighting are also relatively light. On the export side, due to the European debt crisis, the situation is not very good.
In addition, good news on policy also exists. Today, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council also said that the subsidy for energy-saving appliances is 26 billion yuan, including our energy-saving lighting. Recently, the bank deposit reserve ratio has also been lowered by 0.5. These are some measures to boost the economy. I feel that the central government may have seen it. I think the country will take more measures in the second half of the year to boost the economy. In the second half of the year, from the lighting industry, one is the promotion of energy-saving lamps, and the other is the promotion of LEDs. There are probably 2.2 billion funds, which may have a great impact on the Chinese lighting industry.
