The Singapore-MIT Research Center has recently developed a new type of sensor resembling a seal beard. This sensor helps improve the safety of offshore oil extraction and vessel navigation.
The seal's beard can detect the position and moving speed of other water objects, and can sense the subtle changes in water flow caused by fish swimming, thereby swimming and catching prey more effectively.
