Ramie seedling technology has achieved new breakthroughs

Recently, during the observation ceremony of the "Nettle Young Shoot Hydroponic Industrialized Seedling Technology System" organized by the Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, it was revealed that traditional ramie shoot soil cutting seedling methods have significant environmental impacts and are highly labor-intensive. These techniques suffer from issues like high labor demands and low land utilization rates. In response, the ramie breeding team led by researcher Xiong Heping at the hemp research institute has developed an innovative hydroponic seedling technology system. This system aims to standardize and streamline the nursery process, significantly enhancing agricultural resource efficiency. The new technical system employs water cultivation methods, incorporating disinfection procedures, nutrient solution formulation, and precise control of light and temperature environments. It also considers variety characteristics, planting density, and hydroponic modes. This approach reduces the adaptation period, makes seedlings easier to transport, and lays the foundation for mechanized ramie planting. By avoiding soil-borne diseases, the survival rate of ramie cuttings has been effectively increased, reaching up to 92% in field transplanting. Additionally, this method transforms the traditional seasonal soil cutting approach into a continuous, year-round seedling production system. As a result, the production cycle is shortened, and the utilization of water and soil resources is improved, along with a more comfortable working environment. It also greatly reduces labor intensity and enhances seedling efficiency. During the observation meeting, hemp experts praised the integration of hydroponic seedling technology for ramie shoots, highlighting its advantages in facility management, vertical farming, and off-season production. They recognized the system as a promising technical path that aligns with the requirements of modern agricultural industrialization, particularly for large-scale and continuous production. Experts recommended increasing government funding for ongoing research, further refining the technical parameters, and establishing a demonstration plant for castor hydroponics as soon as possible. Such efforts would help drive the development of China's ramie industry and promote sustainable agricultural practices. 【Print】 【Close】
