Danish brand develops 82,000 pounds of silver tea set with 3D printing

Recently, the famous Danish metal products brand Georg Jensen and Australian designer Marc Newson have created a limited edition sculpture tea set. This is the first collaboration between Newson and Georg Jensen, which was created a century ago.

Marc Newson is an internationally renowned industrial designer born in the UK. His experience in design includes aircraft design, product design, and design in the furniture, jewelry, and apparel sectors. Some of his famous works include a pen designed for the French luxury brand Hermès, a series of pens with precious metals designed for Montblanc, and a limited edition samurai sword. Since September 2014, Newson has also worked for Apple and has become part of its design team.

Georg Jensen, a century-old shop, doesn't often work with contemporary artists and designers, and this time with Marc Newson, they are very excited. David Chu, CEO of the company, explained: “Marc Newson, indeed, is the only choice for me to design a new tea set for Georg Jensen. Based on his unparalleled and unusual experience in industrial design, and The keen sense of the heavy elements of speed, movement, architecture, and time recording, especially since his career began with a sculptor, like Georg Jensen. So who else can do this except Marc The warm, restrained functional tea set is so naturally connected with the sense of universality, harmony and solemn ritual?"

This tea set consists of five parts: a coffee pot, a teapot, a sugar bowl, a cheese separator, and a tray. Each is made of hand-hammered silverware plus a handle from mammoth ivory material. A natural vine pattern on the bottom of the tray, coffee pot and teapot gives the tea set an organic, sculptural feel. In addition, a smart push-pull cover is also designed on the coffee maker and teapot, so users can fill the water from here. Each piece has a logo with a "MN" signature on the bottom cover to prove its authenticity. It is understood that this tea set is limited to 10 sets, the price of each set is 82,000 pounds.

The company said that the entire tea set design process, including conceptual design, rapid prototyping of 3D printing technology and Jensen's silversmith spent a few months of hand-made. It is worth noting that the first set of such tea sets was said to have been hand-made by the company's third-generation silversmith, and his grandfather worked with Georg Jensen, the founder of the Danish brand.

Newson also used rapid prototyping 3D printing technology in the design and development of this tea set, which is especially important for his work, because 3D printing makes it easy to prototype and explore the design of different shapes, materials and technologies. possibility.

This tea set was also exhibited at the 2015 Beijing Design Week not long ago, and it has received much attention due to its application of 3D printing technology in its design.
