Guam is a large island in the western Pacific Ocean, in the Mariana Islands. It is 32 miles long, 4 to 8 miles wide and has a total area of 209 square kilometers.

From 1581, Guam was ruled by the Spaniards. After the Spanish-American War in 1898, it was under the control of the United States. After the Pearl Harbor incident in 1941, it was occupied by Japan for two and a half years. In 1944 the United States again gained control. Guam became the territory of the United States in 1950 and the islanders were American citizens. Now that Guam is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of the Interior, it is a strategic place for the United States in the Pacific Ocean.

Guam has dense jungles in the north, undulating mountains in the south, winding coastlines, continuous coral reefs encircling the entire island, and coral seawater is clear and green, forming many natural swimming pools. Coconut trees and white sandy beaches form a stunning island scene.

Guam's tropical ocean climate is very pleasant. The island's modern high-rise buildings, stucco tin roof houses and palm-leaf-roofed straw huts are scattered and form a unique settlement. Nowadays, Guam is a place to attract tourists, and there are as many as 220,000 visitors a year.

Guam residents are a multi-ethnic mixture. Of the 110,000 inhabitants, the inhabitants of the island are Chamorro, and the rest are the Philippines, North Korea, Japan, China and Vietnam. The Chamorro people have their own culture, but they are deeply influenced by Spain and the United States. At present, there is a tendency to restore ancient culture and traditions. The school has set up a Charolais language class and teaches Chamorro dance and techniques. There are 33 schools of all kinds on the island, one of which is the University of Guam, with more than 28,000 students.

Guam people love swimming, especially snorkeling, and hold a snorkeling tour every year. The Guam Marathon Games is also often held. Guam usually enjoys walking and people call Guam “a paradise for strollers”
