Novel Metallocene TPEs as Modifiers

A propylene-based TPE series is expected to be used in a wider range of applications. Its initial goal is to act as a modifier for polyolefins and other resins for automotive and electrical parts and food packaging. Mitsui Chemicals Japan uses its patented metallocene technology to produce the Tafmer XM series. Last month, this new soft material has already begun commercial production.

The performance of the XM series elastomers is higher than that of the Tafmer resin modifiers produced with Ziegler catalysts. For example, when blended with PP to produce a heat-sealable layer of PP film, the XM elastomer allows sealing at a low temperature of 20 °C. Their excellent anti-blocking properties are said to prevent the films from sticking together during storage and transportation.
