The reporter learned from the regular press conference of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment that in 2018, the first round of the central ecological environmental protection inspector rectification carried out in 20 provinces (districts) across the country “returned” and achieved remarkable results. The two batches of “looking back” received a total of 96,755 reports from the masses, and transferred 75,781 copies to the local authorities after repeated reports. As of December 20, the vast majority of the people have reported that they have completed the report. Among them, 43486 were ordered to be rectified; 11286 were punished and a fine of 1.02 billion was imposed; 5,787 people were interviewed, 8864 were accountable, and more than 70,000 ecological problems were solved directly.

Liu Changgen, executive deputy director of the Central Ecological Environmental Protection Inspectorate Office, said that “looking back” has promoted a large number of ecological and environmental problems that have been solved for many years and have not been resolved. For example, Ningxia Tairui Pharmaceutical decided to implement the suspension of production and relocation, completely solve the problem of odor and nuisance for 15 years; Jilin Changbai Mountain Golf Course and its supporting villa projects have been illegally operated for many years and have now been completely dismantled. Through “looking back”, a number of projects violating ecological environmental protection laws and regulations were suspended, a number of green ecological industries accelerated, and a number of traditional industries were optimized and upgraded.

Next, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will promote the development of the central ecological environmental protection inspector. Liu Changgen said that starting from 2019, it is planned to complete the second round of the central ecological environmental protection routine inspector in about three years, and then complete the "review" in one year. The second round of inspectors will expand the scope appropriately, and will regard relevant departments and central enterprises as inspectors as appropriate, and continue to explore innovative inspectors and methods, and increase satellite remote sensing, infrared identification, drones, big data and other technical applications.
