The meaning and common sense of green packaging

Green packaging should start from two aspects: green packaging materials and reuse, recycling, edible, and degradable aspects.

Green packaging starts with materials

1. Degradable plastic

The "degradable new plastics" currently popular in the world have excellent quality that decomposes and disappears by themselves after being discarded without polluting the environment.

Germany invented a packaging cup made of starch, which meets the insolubilization of liquids, and can hold dairy products. This invention saved 4 billion plastic bottles in Germany, and it was easy to decompose after being discarded. The United States has developed a plastic bag made of starch and synthetic fibers, which can be decomposed into water and carbon dioxide in nature. Countries such as the Netherlands and Italy have legislated that certain plastic packaging materials must use degradable plastics, and packaging that is harmful to the environment must not be placed on the market.

2. Paper

Since paper products can be recycled again after use, a small amount of waste can be naturally decomposed in the natural environment, which has no adverse impact on the natural environment. Therefore, it is recognized that paper, cardboard and paper products are green products in the world, which meets the requirements of environmental protection. Treatment of white pollution caused by plastics can play an active role in substitution. At present, the paper packaging materials that are being researched and developed at home and abroad are: paper packaging films, disposable paper product containers, paper packaging materials developed using natural resources, and edible paper products.

3. Glass

If it does not contain metals, ceramics and other substances, the glass can be almost completely recycled. The content of other color glass fragments in a glass of a certain color has a maximum limit: â‘  The maximum content of other color glass in green glass does not exceed 15%. â‘¡ The maximum content of other colored glass in white glass does not exceed 3%, of which the maximum content of brown glass does not exceed 2%, and the maximum content of green glass does not exceed 1%. â‘¢ The maximum content of brown glass in other colors does not exceed 8%. To this end, it is necessary to strengthen the classification and collection of different colored glass. In some developed countries, white glass and colored glass are collected in different containers. Because glass packaging has the advantages of strong visibility and easy recycling and reuse, it has become the main container of traditional packaging for beverages and other products.

4. Bamboo

Bamboo packaging is non-toxic, non-polluting and easy to recycle. Bamboo packaging refers to: bamboo plywood boxes, silk bale bamboo boxes, etc. China is a wood-deficient country in the world, but China's total bamboo forest area and bamboo resource accumulation rank first and second in the world, respectively. China's bamboo packaging with a strong traditional cultural atmosphere has been favored by countries such as Europe, America and Japan.

Green packaging starts with reusable, renewable, edible and degradable

1. Reuse and regeneration

Reuse of packaging such as the promotion of beer, beverages, soy sauce, vinegar and other packaging using glass bottles, repeated use. Sweden and other countries have implemented the reuse of polyester PET beverage bottles and PC feeding bottles for more than 20 times. The Dutch Wellman Company and the US Holmson Company 100% recycle PET containers. For example, after recycling, polyester bottles can be regenerated by two methods. The physical method refers to direct and thorough purification and pulverization without any contaminants. The treated plastic is directly used in the recycling packaging container; the chemical method refers to the recycling of PET After crushing and washing, depolymerization of methanol, ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol, etc., under the action of an alkaline catalyst, completely depolymerizes PET into monomers or partially depolymerizes into oligomers. After purification, the monomers or oligomers are repolymerized into Recycled PET resin packaging materials.

2. Edible

For decades, the glutinous rice paper used on the well-known candy packaging and the corn baking packaging cup for ice cream are typical edible packaging.

The more mature synthetic edible packaging film is the pullulan resin that has been industrialized in the 1970s. It is an odorless, odorless, non-crystalline, amorphous white powder. It is a non-ionic, non-reducing and stable Polysaccharides. Because it is polyglucose composed of a-glucoside, it is easy to dissolve in water and can be used as a viscous, neutral and non-ionic non-gelatinized aqueous solution. Its 5% -10% aqueous solution can be made into a film with a thickness of 0.01mm after drying or hot pressing. It is transparent, colorless, odorless, non-toxic, flexible, high oil resistance, edible, and can be used for food packaging . Its gloss, strength and folding resistance are better than those made of high-amylose film.

Recently, researchers in Wuhan have developed a new type of edible packaging film for inner packaging materials. The product is converted into polysaccharides by fermentation of raw materials such as dried taro, potatoes and broken rice, and then the polysaccharides are extended into films. The membrane is a polymer material formed by connecting glucose, and has the characteristics of edibility, degradability, colorless and transparent, and good oxygen barrier. As a food packaging film, its right-angle tear strength, mechanical strength, light transmittance, etc. can all meet the plastic packaging excellent film standards. After the film is made into a bag, the milk powder and salad oil are filled with oil, and can be consumed together with milk powder in water.

3. Degradable

Degradable material refers to a plastic whose chemical structure changes under a specific environment at a specific time. Degradable plastic packaging materials have the functions and characteristics of traditional plastics, and can also be decomposed and reduced in the natural environment by the action of ultraviolet light in sunlight or the action of microorganisms in soil and water after the service life is completed, and finally in a non-toxic form Re-enter the ecological environment. Degradable plastics are mainly divided into synthetic photodegradable plastics, photodegradable plastics and biodegradable plastics added with photosensitizers, and multifunctional degradable plastics in which multiple degradable plastics are compounded together. There are also divided into photodegradable plastics, biodegradable plastics (fully biodegradable plastics, partially biodegradable plastics), chemically degradable plastics (oxygen degradable plastics, water degradable plastics), and composites of the above three degradable plastics according to the environmental conditions of degradable plastics Degradable materials.

4. Paper materials

At present, many enterprises have considered using medium- and heavy-duty corrugated boxes or white cardboard boxes for packaging, and using various moisture-proof and fresh-keeping papers instead of plastic films for packaging. More than half of the plastic packaging in the United States has been replaced with new paper packaging. China's Shanghai Jiabao Packaging Company introduced advanced equipment to develop a pulp model. This product is made of natural plant fibers, such as reed pulp, bagasse pulp, wood pulp and other raw materials, after scientific formulation and compression molding. This pulp model is the most ideal product to replace foam tableware.

Oxo biodegradable technology can make plastic totally degradable. Plastic incorporating with TDRAâ„¢ additive, that is TDPâ„¢ plastic, will degrade in months and finally become carbon dioxide, water and bio mass particles without leaving any toxic or harmful residue. Hense, TDPâ„¢ plastic is 100% environment friendly. MST now can make kraft paper/PLA degradable bags, PLA is a 100% degradable material which we import from Italy, meantime all these material are FDA approved, suitable and safe for food packaging.
