Over the past four years, the implementation of green printing in China has achieved remarkable results, playing a key role in transforming the country from a major printing nation to a powerful one. Recently, the 2014 Green Printing Awareness Week concluded successfully. What new progress has been made in China’s green printing efforts this year? What important updates should we pay attention to? This article explores these questions with your interest in mind.
Diverse Activities Highlight Green Printing
On November 3, 2014, the 2014 Green Printing Promotion Conference kicked off the awareness week. Organized by the Department of Printing and Distribution of the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television and the Department of Science and Technology Standards of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the conference released two key reports: the "2014 Green Printing Implementation Achievement Analysis Report" and the "2014 China Green Printing Enterprise Ecological Development Annual Survey Report." It also honored 30 companies as national demonstration enterprises for printing and copying.
At the same time, the 3rd Beijing Green Printing Industry Promotion Business Exchange Conference, along with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Green Printing Industry Collaboration Conference, took place from November 3 to 4. This event received strong support from the governments and associations of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. Publishing houses, distributors, printers, equipment suppliers, industrial parks, certification bodies, and quality inspection agencies showcased the latest green printing technologies and trends. On-site, three negotiation areas were set up for discussions on topics like green consumables, publishing industry chains, and efficient prepress, helping companies integrate across industries and achieve sustainable production.
In addition, a recognition ceremony was held for companies actively promoting green printing in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Some publishing units, equipment suppliers, and qualified printing companies signed the “Letter of Intent for Green Publications.†Industrial parks from the three regions also shared their development situations. Various activities, such as contests on printing laws, safety production, and green printing knowledge, as well as forums on business model innovation, further enhanced the event’s impact. These conferences helped strengthen green printing concepts and promoted regional collaboration, achieving a synergistic effect of “1+1>2.â€
This year, organizers expanded the reach of the Green Printing Awareness Week through print and online media. They introduced innovative methods, such as live streaming the event online for those unable to attend in person, launching a WeChat public account to spread green printing knowledge, and creating a mobile app version of the “Green Printing Handbook†for free download. Additionally, the Printing and Distribution Department of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, along with the China Printing Museum, initiated the construction of a “National Green Printing Display and Exchange Base,†aiming to provide a long-term platform for green printing promotion and exchange.
