The first step: dust removal

A brush such as bristles can be used to gently brush off the surface of the mahogany furniture, especially the corners of the detail. When choosing a brush, pay attention to the moderate hardness. The hard brush is easy to scratch the surface of the furniture. At the same time, the dust should not be too strong.

The second step: rubbing scale

The next step is to clean it with a soft cloth. The material of the soft cloth is preferably made of pure cotton fabric. It is best to follow the texture of the mahogany itself when wiping, so as to better clean the dirt. To avoid wiping with a damp cloth, avoid using a solvent such as alcohol or gasoline.

The third step: waxing

After the furniture is dried, take the final step and wax. Waxing not only enhances the appearance, but also makes the furniture more lustrous. It can also protect the wood and prolong the service life of the furniture. Especially the back of the furniture can be wiped with wax. Note that the amount is small, the number of times is small, only the back and bottom of the furniture are rubbed, and the front side is not rubbed, and the moisture of the furniture is appropriately closed. However, waxing does not need to be too frequent, it is best to wipe it once with a little wax every three months.

Good old-fashioned mahogany furniture, in the collection process, the principle of grasping: In daily use, the furniture can be slowly worn out due to the use process, but the furniture wood can not be aged.

Aging refers to a dry crack caused by loss of oil and moisture in wood. Due to excessive cracking, there are often problems such as deformation, no patina, and loss of charm. When old furniture ages, the following three maintenance methods will become the “savior” of old furniture: (1) resurrection moisturizing method; (2) maintaining water method; (3) controlling oil method.

1, resurrection moisturizing method.

Mainly for long-term dry and heavy furniture.

Step 1: After dusting and rubbing on the bottom of the furniture, select a small area, use a humidifier to align the furniture and slightly humidify the cracked furniture. The humidity is controlled at 8-12%, the humidification time is 6 hours, and the humidification is waited for 12 hours. Oil again.

Step 2: After humidification, use the special walnut oil of mahogany, wipe the oil in a small area, and the oil quantity should be less.

Step 3: Do not wipe immediately after rubbing the oil. Wait for 48 hours to allow the furniture to be absorbed.

Step 4: Observe whether the furniture has a “re-soft phenomenon”. If there is a softening phenomenon, dry the oil and add beeswax.

Step 5: The first beeswax can be thickened for the first time, and the purpose is to control oil and moisture. And observe a week. If the furniture produces light and has a preliminary patina feeling after one week, it will be applied in a large area. (Note: Choose beeswax with better moisturization, not fast dry hard wax)

Step 6: Resurrection Moisture Method After resurrecting the furniture, you can gently wipe it with a dry towel every day, and apply a few drops of oil on the towel every month to clean it.

This method suggests that collectors try a small area after a small trial. Especially when trying to humidify in a large area, you can't align the furniture with humidification!

2. Maintain the moisture method.

It is mainly used in areas where the weather is relatively dry in parts of the north.

Step 1: Concentrate on the furniture to be maintained and place a room (mainly for furniture with chapped skin).

Step 2: In a room with concentrated furniture, put a humidifier. The humidifier should be humidified to a small amount and humidified once every 6 hours. The humidification time is 2 hours each time.

Step 3: After a week of humidification, first apply a small amount of walnut oil, then dry the oil after the last one, and wait for three days.

Step 4: After rubbing the oil for three days, control the water with a moisturizing beeswax.

This method suggests that the collector choose to try a small area at the bottom of the furniture and try to use it after a large amount of trial.

3. Control the oil separation method.

Control the oil separation method. Mainly for the furniture has been pulp, but the patina slowly appears to crack.

Step 1: You can choose to remove the dust and dirt after a small area on the bottom of the furniture.

Step 2: After observing the beeswax for a week, if the furniture produces a "re-soft" feel, it can be tried in a large area.
