I visit IKEA every year, and with each trip, my perspective changes. There's no denying that this once-mighty giant of the retail world has built a business model that's stood the test of time. It's undeniably charming, and it's not something that the internet can easily replace. They've brought together some of the most talented designers in the world, creating iconic pieces that have become household names. Their products are affordable, stylish, and well-designed—yet, when it comes to furniture, I often find myself less than satisfied.
This time, I spent an entire day wandering through IKEA. I loved the kitchen displays and the range of kitchenware, but I couldn't help but be critical of the furniture itself. I took 25 photos to show just how unimpressed I was. The details on IKEA furniture are things that most people don’t notice at first glance. I wanted to highlight that sometimes, even with large-scale production, quality doesn’t always match expectations.
Here are some of the close-ups that made me think: the joints, the edges, the finishes. These are the little things that can make or break a piece of furniture. While IKEA is great for style and affordability, there’s still room for improvement when it comes to durability and craftsmanship.
Check out these images and see if you feel the same way. Do you also find yourself impressed by the design but disappointed by the build? Let me know what you think.
