China developed "plastic foam + cement" new building materials

As far as household appliances are packaged, white snack food boxes are used, foam plastics are used everywhere, and much more waste is used. How to dispose of discarded foams has increasingly attracted public attention. Three middle school students in Beijing proposed a bold proposal for the use of foam plastic as a wall surface filler.

After several months of research and experiment, Meng Si, Yang Hao, and Zhou Shuo of Grade 2 (4) students of Beijing 161 Middle School have already experimented with new materials of “plastic foam + cement”. They tore up the scrapped plastic lunch boxes into small pieces, mix them with cement to make bricks, use the same mold to make bricks of the same size as the cement bricks, and perform weight, strength, heat insulation and sound insulation on both. Four comparative experiments. They used bench scales to determine which kind of cement bricks were heavier. They pressed the scales to determine which bricks would break first, and heated them under the bricks with alcohol lamps. The water above which the bricks evaporate was faster and the bricks were separated by a decibel divider. Recording the sound of the recorder, though simple, can also explain the problem. Experiments show that the use of "plastic foam + cement" brick is only slightly lower than the strength of cement bricks, but light weight, heat insulation, sound insulation effect is good.

They suggested that the construction department should use "plastic foam + cement" bricks for non-load-bearing walls, which is considered to solve the problem of poor thermal insulation and sound insulation of cement walls. This will not only significantly reduce construction costs but also facilitate the recycling of waste foam.
