A new generation of wood-plastic composite (WPC) modification technology is currently under development. WPC parts can improve performance through technologies such as molecular orientation and radiation treatment. This is the latest technology announced at the 6th Global Wood and Natural Fiber Composites Symposium held in Germany.
After a high degree of molecular orientation of 40% wood-reinforced PP material at Leeds University, the wood-plastic composite obtained high strength and hardness, as well as low water absorption and swellability; researchers from Bangladesh Nuclear Science Institute and Jahangirnagar University were Another research project found that the mechanical properties of the composites were improved after gamma ray treatment prior to processing the reinforced plastic composites with jute fibers and polypropylene. However, at present, these two technologies are still in the research stage and have not begun to be applied.
