World octanol situation outlook

Octanol is an important basic organic chemical raw material and raw material for chemical additives. It is mainly used for the production of dioctyl phthalate and dioctyl terephthalate. It is also used in diesel fuel additives, antioxidants, printing and dyeing areas.
Octanol production capacity is relatively scattered in various countries. The largest share is in Western Europe, accounting for 29% of the world's total production capacity; followed by Japan and the United States, both accounting for 11%. World octanol consumption is also scattered. Western Europe, the United States, and Japan account for 20.6%, 10.8%, and 11.3% of total consumption respectively. In other regions, Asia (mainly China) consumes more. In the United States, Western Europe and Japan, octanol is mainly consumed in plasticizers and octyl acrylate. Plasticizers account for the largest consumer share, accounting for 75.9% in Western Europe, 66.3% in Japan, and 47.1% in the United States. The proportion of octanol consumed by octyl acrylate in the United States reached 29.2%, and that of Japan and Western Europe accounted for 22% and 10.5%, respectively.
There are 4 octanol production enterprises in China, and the total production capacity reached 250,000 tons last year, namely Daqing Petrochemical Plant, Qilu Petrochemical Company, Jilin Chemical Company, and Beijing Chemical Industry Plant. In recent years, the output of octanol in China has steadily increased and the output has reached 255,600 tons. Due to the contradiction between supply and demand, octanol has maintained a high operating rate, and the average operating rate in 2000 reached 100%.
Domestic octanol production is far from meeting market demand. In recent years, the import volume of octanol in China has continued to increase substantially. In 2000, it reached the highest peak of 217,900 tons. The import volume was 5.9 times that of 1996. The average annual growth rate reached 42.4% in five years. Between 1996 and 2000, the consumption of octanol in China maintained a rapid growth. By the year 2000, the apparent consumption reached the highest level of 471,500 tons, which was 2.07 times the apparent consumption in 1996. The apparent annual consumption increased from 1996 to 2000. The rate is 15.6%. In 2000, the total consumption of octanol in China accounted for 46.2% of imported products, and the domestic product satisfaction rate was only 53.8%, which severely restricted downstream product development. By 2005, the demand for octanol in China will reach 600,000 tons, with an average annual growth rate of 5%. It is estimated that in 2005 China's total octanol production capacity will reach 460,000-500,000 tons, and the demand will be 600,000 tons, and the supply and demand gap will remain large.
At present, the octanol market in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan is basically mature, demand growth will remain at a relatively low level, while Asia and other regions will grow faster. It is estimated that by 2005, the world's octanol consumption will reach 3.84 million tons. Since the octanol market in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan is basically mature, its new production capacity is small before 2005. In other regions such as Asia, due to the large gap and rapid demand growth, it is expected that a certain amount of production capacity will be added. It is estimated that by 2005, the world's total octanol production capacity will reach 4.7 million tons, with a basic balance between supply and demand, and the average operating rate will be around 80%.
