Japan Develops New Technologies for Extracting Useful Substances from Rice Husk

Professor Keisuke Masaru of the University of Tokyo in Japan and Vice President of the UNU Suzuki Keiko are cooperating to develop new technologies for extracting useful substances from rice husks. The extracts can reach one-third of the weight of raw Materials.

According to Professor Jun-Tian, the technology is characterized by high-temperature and high-pressure two-stage continuous treatment, which efficiently decomposes rice husks, and obtains furfural, which can be used as a polyester raw material, and sugars that can be used as a surfactant. The process is as follows: In the first stage, after the application of water vapor at 200 to 230 degrees Celsius, the decompression is carried out so that the rice hulls are explosively pulverized into a powder; in the second stage, water is added to the remaining solid decomposer to make it 280 Reacts in degrees Celsius and 150 atmospheres. Through these two stages of treatment, about 20% of sugars and about 7% of furfural can be recovered from the decomposition products.

Professor Junzhong said that although the above new technology has achieved the above results, the cost is too high and it is still in the experimental stage. In the future, efforts must be made to reduce costs.
