North America: PET bottles for beverage bottles begin to rise

Due to raw material pressure, the prices of PET resin and PS in North America bottles have risen since August 1.
As the price of raw materials for paraxylene rose, PET prices rose by an average of 3 cents/lb. This has led to a rise in the price of purified p-xylene acid. In the United States, the price of p-xylene acid is calculated based on the price of p-xylene.
An industry source said: "The paraxylene prices continue to rise, and the current profits are very high. The supply is very tight."
He added: “Consumer preferences continue to promote the market demand for thinner mineral water bottles, while the use of carbonated beverage bottles is less concerned.” He pointed out that the recent conversation with an American bottler has also confirmed this phenomenon. .
The bottler will donate beverages to the local high school graduation ceremony each year. A few years ago, the ratio of bottled water for carbonated beverages was 90/10. But now, this ratio has completely reversed. Schools are increasingly inclined to bottled water.
North America's overall PET demand for 2011 may be flat because in the next few months, the beverage market has not scheduled a major product launch. According to the US Plastics News resin price list, North American PET prices have risen by nearly 15 cents since January 1.
In the PS market, since the price of pure benzene in August was set at US$4.13 per gallon, it increased by 12 cents, and the PS price also rose by an average of 4 cents per pound.
David Barry, an observer for the PS market at PetroChem Wire Consulting in West Orange, New Jersey, said: “For manufacturers, PS price rises are purely cost recovery.” He added: “Pure benzene has fallen by nearly $3 but now It has picked up."
Barry said he is not sure whether the price of PS will rise because the spot price of pure benzene has shown a downward trend. According to the US Plastics News Price List, high-impact PS grades for injection molding have increased prices by 4 times since January 1 and have risen by nearly 22%.
According to the US Chemical Commission, in the US and Canada’s PS terminal market in June, food packaging and catering service applications topped the market with a market share of nearly 60%.
